Syracuse, NY -- Mezmeriz, an Ithaca company that has developed a projection system that uses mirrors and lasers to create high-definition displays, today won the New York's Creative Core $100,000 Emerging Business Competition. The award was announced at the Metropolitan Development Association's annual meeting today at the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center at Oncenter. Gov. David Paterson, in his keynote address to the business development group, declared New York "open for business.'' He said he was committed to breaking down barriers to business development in the state -- especially Upstate. He said the state faces serious economic challenges as the national economy reels and the amount of tax revenue coming from Wall Street declines. Paterson received several standing ovations from the audience. The governor, in office for a month after the resignation of Eliot Spitzer, also praised the innovation coming out of Central New York, as represented by the five finalists for the $100,000 business prize.
